Clear Lung

China Herb’s house formula clears lung heat, eases the throat, and transforms phlegm.

Loved for over 20 years, this is our go-to formula when there’s cough as well as symptoms of throat inflammation. The formula features an uncommon herb Tu Niu Xi, which, in contrast to Huai or Chuan Niu xi Drains Fire and clears toxins: For painful or swollen throat.

Qing Qi Hua Tan Wan

The classic heat-clearing, phlegm transforming formula from Yi Fang Kao by Wu Kun in 1584. One of many formulas that expand on the core phlegm damp formula Er Chen Tang- Two Aged Decoction.

Xing Su San

This Wen Bing formula treats cool dryness. Classically experienced in autumn as a dry cough, the presentation can present in any season. Moistening and gently dispersing, it is also effective in transforming phlegm-damp. Notice that this formula also folds in Er Chen Tang, but in contrast to Qing Qi Hua Tan Wan, it uses moistening herbs to soothe the longs and alleviate cough.

Cough Cooler

Originally created as a pediatric formula, we’ve found it to be helpful for grown-up lung heat coughs too. We’ve included Xin Yi Hua to help the formula open stuffy noses.

Ban Xia Hou Po Tang

Zhong Zhang-jing’s classical formula from Essentials from the Golden Cabinet Jīn Guì Yào Lüè treats Plum-seed Qi, this formula also helps transform phlegm, relieve stagnation and open the throat.

Bai He Gu Jin Tang

Written in the Ming Dynasty in the Writings for Posterity of [Zhou] Shen-zhai (Shèn Zhāi Yí Shū,慎斋遗书), by Zhou Zhi-gan 1573 Ming)

Moistening, nourishing, and cooling, this formula is a departure from the previous formulas as it treats a pattern of Lung and Kidney Yin vacuity, which can present with blood-streaked sputum, dry, sore throat, and night sweats.

Bei Mu Gua Lou San

From the Qing dynasty text Medical Revelations Yī Xué Xīn Wù by Cheng Guo-peng, it’s a Long-time favorite, we often fold this formula into other cough formulas to help thin and transform phlegm heat. It can be an excellent alternative to Guaifenisen-based medications, as the herbs act as mucolytic expectorants.

Bu Fei Tang

This formula tonifies the Lung qi, strengthens the Wei qi, and helps top cough and wheeze. We find it useful for chronic bronchial conditions as well as during recovery from a respiratory illness. This formula was created by Li Zhong-nan’s Yuan dynasty Yong Lei Qian Fang (“Everlasting Categorization of Inscribed Formulas”) in 1331.
